Teasing Your Partner Playfully Can Be Good for Your Relationship January 21, 2019 09:50

Are you invariably in a mood to tease your better half? If yes, then there is good news for you.A new study suggests that couples who make fun of each other in a healthy way, are more probable to stay together. It further said that inside jokes are especially important since they affirm one’s relationship through laughter, according to a Daily Mail report. But then a couple who share mean-spirited jokes with unpleasant jibes are improbable to last, which indicates trouble in the relationship."Playfulness between romantic partners is a crucial component in bonding and establishing relational security," said Jeffrey Hall, Associate Professor from the University of Kansas in the U.S. "Particularly shared laughter is an important indicator of romantic attraction between potential mates," Hall added. The team examined more than 150,000 participants to find out how important humor is in a romantic relationship.According to results, published in the journal Personal Relationships, couples who create humor together - including inside jokes - are more likely to last. But, this does not mean that people who are humorous or can make a joke out of anything would be more fortunate in love. "If you share a sense of what's funny, it affirms you and affirms your relationship through laughter," Hall was quoted as saying by Daily Mail. However, Hall warned that couples should not go too far. Significantly, having an aggressive sense of humor is a bad sign for the relationship in general, but it is worse if this style of humor is used in the relationship, the study noted.-Sowmya Sangam

Indian Groups in UAE Miss Deadline for Proposals on New Immigration Bill January 21, 2019 06:39

Scores Indian expatriate groups in the United Arab Emirates have missed the finishing date to recommenced changes to New Delhi’s new draft immigration act that will replace the immigration act of 1983, according to media reports. The deadline to suggest changes is slated to end today.Earlier this week, the Indian government had invited public feedback for the draft immigration bill that makes mandatory for registration/intimation of Indian nationals moving for higher studies or for work. The bill was finalized in order to address problems of migrants and as well help regulate the movement of Indians overseas for education or work.AK Beeran Kutty, President of the Kerala Social Centre (KSC), told The Khaleej Times that he came to know about the draft bill just three days ago.“The (Indian) government should have circulated it through official channels and diplomatic missions. None of us even knew about the tweet put out by the Ministry of External Affairs seeking comments. I think we lost an opportunity to study the draft bill carefully and raise our concerns,” Kutty said.India Social and Cultural Centre (ISCC) President Ramesh Panicker echoed similar concerns, saying: “Not everybody is on Twitter. An important draft bill like this should have been made public through official channels. We got the circular from the embassy just two days ago. Though I have circulated it among our members, there wasn't enough time.“I hope the government will postpone the deadline and allot more time for the diaspora to give their feedback,” he told The Khaleej Times.Panicker added that he would raise the issue at the 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, which will begin in Varanasi on January 21.Bindu Suresh Chettur, a lawyer based in Dubai, said she hoped the government would extend the deadline. “It is an important bill that affects the diaspora and hence expat organizations should have the chance to get involved.”-Sowmya Sangam

‘I Would Love to Come to Shoot in India’: Indian Origin Director Shyamalan January 21, 2019 05:19

The Indian origin filmmaker and actor M. Night Shyamalan, who is known for making films with contemporary supernatural projects, said he infuses Indian influences into his work and would love to come to the country to shoot a project. Born in Puducherry, India and raised in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania, Shyamalan made his debut with the film "Praying with Anger", a story about the journey of an American-Asian student discovering his Indian roots, back in 1992. In an exclusive interview with IANS, Shyamalan said: “I would love to come to shoot in India. I shot my very first film in India when I was in college when I was 21. I would love to come to shoot something in India. I have to think of an idea.” He received a pat on the back with the film “The Sixth Sense” in 1999. He is also credited for projects like "The Visit", "Wayward Pines", "The Last Airbender", "The Happening", "After Earth", "Split" and "Unbreakable". Asked how he honors his Indian roots through his work, he said: "I think it naturally happens with me. "I was born in Puducherry and have aunts and uncles in India. My parents are very traditional and my uncles and aunts are also very traditional. My generation is kind of the first generation raised in the U.S. Though I have a mix of these influences and hopefully, the different type of values, the spiritual identities, are laced in my thrillers and you could feel that coming through." Right now, the director is getting appreciated for converging the world of "Split" (a story about a man with over 20 different personalities who kidnaps three teenage girls) and "Unbreakable" (about David Dunn who learns something extraordinary about himself after a devastating train accident) in "Glass". The sequel to "Unbreakable" and "Split" stars Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, and Sarah Paulson. Disney India brought the film to India, which released on January 18. -Sowmya
