Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making a special mention regarding Tamil Nadu rains at Climate change summit in Paris. All official media including Doordarshan highlighted his 'Mann ki Baat' address over Akashvani (AIR). While addressing, PM spoke regarding the unprecedented rainfall in Tamil Nadu in a short time span and cited it as an example of impact of climate change in India.

The comment from the PM was also in line with the stand of India on greenhouse emissions at the G-20 summit. PM even expressed his empathy with the sufferings of people affected with floods in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu during the festival season. A central team was touring the state. Modi indirectly lauded the flood relief and rehabilitation efforts of the state government and hinted regarding enhanced central aid. He said that he was confident about Tamil Nadu overcoming the crisis.

Remarks by Modi on the Tamil Nadu rain havoc in relying on report submitted by a BJP panel comprising the public accounts committee chairman K V Thomas, Union ministers Nirmala Seetharaman and Pon Radhakrishhan. Last week, the three of them toured the worst-affected Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and Chennai districts.

Many experts call the Tamil Nadu rain havoc as a kind of freak weather events, which coastal state may often have to face because of climate change in future. According to them, Tamil Nadu should factor climate change into its disaster management.
