The conclusion of Ramadan for U.S. Muslims, known as Eid al-Fitr, will be celebrated on July 6, 2016. It’s just 2 days after Americans celebrated Independence Day on the Fourth of July.

The month long celebration of Ramadan this year ends on July 6, but the date for Eid al-Fitr varies each year, as the dates are set by the moon cycle.  The event takes place on different dates all over the world. All Ramadan celebrations will not happen in  the same time. Due to the lunar cycle, the dates for Eid varies around 11 days every year.

Muslims believe that their holy book, the Qu'ran, was revealed to mankind through their Prophet Muhammad in Ramadan. They celebrates by fasting, as well as extra worship and prayers to come closer to Allah. During Ramadan, Muslim families and friends gather at sundown to end their fast. That event is called "Iftaar", which literally means to "Break fast".

Islam free some from fasting throughout Ramadan. The elderly, pregnant women, as well as diabetes sufferers are free from fasting during the Ramadan period. Children also do not fast. But as they grow up, some of them join their parents in fasting. Some take part in "half fasts".

The Elite sports players do not participate in the fasting period. Muslims at the World Cup, for example, were allowed to miss the fast as it would be harmful for their skills in the competition.
