New Pennsylvania laws from 2017

Starting from 2017 new laws will be implemented in Pennsylvania.

From 1st January 2017, the state Department of Transportation will not issue the registration stickers.

According to Department of Transportation the change will save around $3 million of tax payers money, which will be rather used to purchase automated license plate readers, with which police can scan license plates to check if the vehicle is registered and has an insurance.

People still have to renew their vehicle registrations, have their vehicles inspected and present a registration card to police when they ask.

From 1 January 2017, Wholesale tax on gas will be increased by 8cents a gallon. The current rate is at 50.3cents, after implementing the law the price of a gallon of gas will be 58.3 cents.

The increase in tax under the Act 89 which is a bipartisan law that boosted annual contract for road and bridge work to about One Billion dollars a year.

Under the Act 89, the tax on gas has increased 9 cents in 2014 and 10 cents in 2015. There was no increase in tax in 2016, So the overall increase in tax, including January 2017 hike is 27 cents per gallon over four years.

From 8 January 2017, the Pennsylvania Turnpike toll will see a rise of 6% for both cash and E-ZPass.

E-ZPass for a common passenger vehicle, the cost will increase from $1.16 to $1.23 and for cash customers the cost will increase from $1.80 to $1.95

E-ZPass fro tractor- trailers, the cost will increase from $9.59 to $10.17 for cash customers the cost will increase from $13.60 to $14.45

From January 14, the beer distributors can sell beer in any quantity, which includes 32 ounce bottles, 6 pack, 4 pack.

Before the beer distributors were only had limited access in selling beer cases which was 12 packs and kegs.

The new law will also allow sporting venues to sell mixed drinks and will allow bars to serve alcohol at 9 am, on Sundays, without serving the food.

The changes are being made on the heels of other updates to the state’s liquor laws that have included, allowing the sale of wine at grocery stores and specifying that convenience stores can sell beer.
