The State officials in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania are working on legally banning ‘gay cure’ therapy.
Both the city and state officials are working towards the bill, which will rule out and discredit all the therapies which aim to change sexual orientation.
State representative Brian Sims is fronting the bill, Sims was the first open gay person who was elected in Pennsylvania
He linked conversion therapy to child abuse and pledged to crack down, despite having a lack of intel on practitioners.
Sims said that he does not know a single LGBT person who has not been touched by conversion therapy in some or the other way.
He explained “Because of how it’s practiced. It’s not a full-time therapist who puts it on their sign that they practice conversion therapy. They are known within a community, within a church, within a parish that they’ll help your son or daughter if they are going through these issues.”
Sims also admitted that the state had a little knowledge about how widespread conversion therapy it was, which would potentially make the law difficult to enforce.
Mile Pence the new Vice President has openly supported ‘gay cure’ therapy and a number of other terrifying beliefs. Previously, he suggested that HIV prevention funding must be drained to fund state sponsored ‘gay cure’ therapy.
On a 2000 Congressional campaign website, Pence wrote: “Congress should support the re-authorization of the [HIV funding] Ryan White Care Act only after completion of an audit to ensure that federal dollars were no longer being given to organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus. Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.”
