Police Searching Armed Man in Philadelphia

Police in Philadelphia are searching for an armed man, who fired shots from an under construction building, nearly striking a lady in the parking lot.

Philadelphia police first received a 911 report from three workers at around 6 p.m. on Monday; the workers reported that they were in a renovated building on the 100 block of Spring Garden Street, when they heard gunshots.

As the responding police officer spoke to those men, a woman, who is a worker in one of the businesses on the block approached them.

The woman informed the officers that she was walking towards her car in the parking lot, when she heard gunshots that then hit her car, nearly striking her.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said that the woman was really lucky, because those bullets missed her by inches.

Police declared a barricade situation and installed a staging area around the building, blocking off the Spring Garden Street, and several exits o I-95 and also a nearby SEPTA station. Police officers searched through the building, but did not find the armed man or any weapon.

Officers did find an open fifth floor window of the building that had two bullet markings.

Police officers eventually gave the area “all-clear” and re-opened the closed roads. Investigators continue to search for the suspect and have not yet determined whether the lady in the parking lot was the gunman’s intended target.
