Uber launched yet another service in Pittsburgh

Uber that has been road testing its self-driving fleet of cars in Steel City has launched another service for residents of Pittsburgh.

The company launched its UberEATS application, which is a food-delivery platform. The app was launched in Pittsburgh on Thursday.

The general manager for UberEATS in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, Casy Verkamp said that the food delivery app is already available in more than 80 cities in 30 countries. It is designed to “make eating, well effortless,” while remaining more affordable than the competition apps.

"We had the expertise in logistics and moving people, and now we are applying it to food, and we do expect to do for the food delivery space to do exactly what we did for the transportation industry previously," said Casey Verkamp.

Uber rolled out the service in Boston and Montreal earlier this week and in Mumbai, India, last week. She said that Pittsburgh has been high on the list for quite some time.

"This is a city on the move, and it has an amazing nationally recognized food scene, and we’re so excited to bring a delivery scene to match that," said Verkamp.

Uber officials said that it took only two months to find out the partner restaurants and recruiting delivery drivers from the company’s current roster.

The average delivery time, globally is about 35 minutes.
