Google introduced its Pixel feature update in March, followed by another one earlier this month, which included various new options. However, many users of Pixel smartphones have shared that they are experiencing battery draining problems since the latest updates. According to user feedback on Reddit and on the support forums of the company, this issue seems to be impacting various models of Pixel phones. Some individuals mention that their battery is losing charge quickly, even when the phones are switched to airplane mode. Google has recognized the issue, but they have not yet provided a solution. Numerous users of Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel 8, Pixel 9, and Pixel 10 have been dealing with significant battery drain after the recent Pixel updates. Since the rollout in March 2026, certain devices are reportedly showing abnormal battery loss when not in use. The recent Pixel feature drop also did not resolve any problems, as just days after the April 2026 update, numerous reports from users appeared on Google's Issue Tracker indicating that the battery drain issue is prevalent.
A discussion about this issue received over 600 comments within just ten days after the April Pixel update. The specific reason for the battery drain is still unclear, but user comments imply it might be linked to excessive CPU wakeups and the CPU failing to enter Deep Doze mode. The phone keeps running background tasks even when the display is turned off. One user reported losing a significant amount of battery life in just five to six hours while in airplane mode. Another individual mentioned, "Exynos baseband/GNSS module is stuck in a constant polling loop, leading to a storm of hardware interruptions even when the device is fully isolated in airplane mode with all radios manually turned off." Google confirmed the problem last week. The company has asked those affected to submit detailed bug reports for further examination of background processes and the names of the apps responsible. They may provide a fix in a future update, potentially with the May 2026 patch.
